The whole environment is represented by natural habitats, without human settlements. No form of agriculture is practiced and the husbandry of domestic animals, such as free grazing cattle and sheep, typical of the local culture, is present in very low densities. A large area of the estate is protected by the\u00a0<strong>Natura 2000 network<\/strong>. Many valuable and endangered species, both botanic and faunistic, are found in this estate, thanks to the valuable natural habitats. Hunting activities, concentrated over a few months each year, are conducted with a strong commitment to reducing disturbance and impact on all species present in the area. The management collaborates with parks and universities for conservation and scientific studies and management programs.. The award was presented to the estate\u2019s owner\u00a0<strong>Giampiero PESENTI by Piero MANZONI.<\/strong>\u00a0The Belleuropa Ceremony took place at the European Parliament on December 10th, 2019 as a grand finale for the European Biodiversity Conference, which discussed how the European Union environmental policies affect users.<\/p><p><strong>2018<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.friendsofthecountryside.org\/images\/Belleuropa_2019.png\" alt=\"Belleuropa 2019\" width=\"242\" height=\"162\" \/><\/p><p>Konstantin KOSTOPOULOS, Gerardo GIL DE LA CALLE, Dr Andrea MARATTI, Francesco NATTA, Thierry de l&#8217;ESCAILLE, Daniel CALLEJA CRESPO<\/p><p>This year\u2019s winner,\u00a0\u00a0<strong>\u201cLa Ronca Estate\u201d in Spain,\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0perfectly embodies the philosophy of the Belleuropa Award.\u00a0\u00a0The owner,\u00a0<strong>Dr. Andrea MARATTI<\/strong>, warmly thanked the jury represented by Francesco NATTA for awarding him with the Belleuropa prize and closed his\u00a0remarks by highlighting that\u00a0<strong>&#8220;we do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors but that we borrow it from our children&#8221;.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-6bdbeb2\" data-id=\"6bdbeb2\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ffc73a5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ffc73a5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\"><p>The Award<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1e4b6c5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1e4b6c5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\"><p><strong><em>Belleuropa\u00ae<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0was born in Italy in the late 1990\u2019s thanks to the initiative of Giuseppe NATTA, a leading environmental figure. It was spearheaded by Gruppo Ecodeco\u00ae, a leading Italian firm in the environmental sector.\u00a0The Award rewards each year one of the members of the<strong>\u00a0Wildlife Estate Label<\/strong>\u00a0for its exemplary sustainable management plan. The Wildlife Estate Label is a network of exemplary rural estates with sustainable land use and sustainable management plans aiming at the protection of fauna and flora, and of cultural landscapes.<\/p><p>It is based on the principle that in Europe, the rural territory is highly degraded, and a quality environment is thus a scarce good upon which much value should be placed.
